Field Trip FAQs

New York Aquarium Field Trip FAQs

How do I get to the Aquarium?

Directions to the Aquarium can be found here.

What do I do when I arrive at the Aquarium?

Please present a copy of your paid invoice to the Admissions window to gain access to the Aquarium.

If you booked a classroom experience or a tour, you will meet your educator or tour guide in Conservation Hall (just past the Admissions window) unless alternate arrangements were made. If you booked a self-led activity sheet, you will explore the Aquarium on your own without an instructor or guide.

A map of the Aquarium can be found here.

What accommodations do you make for groups with special needs?

We are committed to creating an inclusive environment where all students are welcome. In order to best meet the needs of your students, we welcome you to contact us to discuss any special needs prior to your program date. We are more than happy to discuss all the options available.

Please visit our Accessibility Page to learn about our KultureCity sensory bags, access our social stories and learn more about exhibit accessibility.

What are the park Rules, especially regarding COVID?

What is your cancellation policy?

Cancellations must be confirmed in writing to (nyaeducation@wcs.org). There is a 50% refund if you cancel at least 4 weeks prior to your program date. There will be no refunds for cancellations made less than 4 weeks in advance.

Can I reschedule my education program?

  • Programs are held rain or shine unless trips are cancelled by school officials or an Aquarium closure is in effect. Encourage your students to dress appropriately for outdoor activities.
  • Requests for changes to reservations cannot be made less than 4 weeks prior to the scheduled date of visit. All rescheduled programs are subject to availability. A substitute program may be provided at the discretion of WCS Education if we are unable to accommodate your original request. There will be no price adjustments made for alternate programs offered. A $50 service charge will apply for each change made to the original reservation.
  • More information on our cancellation and rescheduling policy can be found here.

What if I cannot arrive on time?

In order to pack as much fun as possible into one day, we must start on time! Please plan to arrive at the Aquarium at least 15 minutes prior to your scheduled program. If an emergency situation comes up and you’ll be arriving late, email is the best form of communication (nyaeducation@wcs.org). Groups that arrive late to their scheduled program may have their program shortened or cancelled. There will be no price adjustment or refund for late arrivals.

What are the payment guidelines for education programs?

Payment is due in advance of your date of visit. Prices are a flat rate per class.

  • Credit card payments must be made by phone (800-433-4149), press the prompt for Education. Due to high call volume, we recommend you email or leave a voicemail giving us a specific phone number and time to call you directly for payment.

  • Purchase Orders may be emailed to (nyaeducation@wcs.org) or mailed to the address below. Once we receive and acknowledge your PO, your order will be considered confirmed and we will expect payment at a later date.

  • Checks should be mailed to Education Headquarters at the Wildlife Conservation Society, Attn: Education, 2300 Southern Boulevard, Bronx, NY 10460.

What are the dining options?

The Seaside Cafe menu features artisan salads and sandwiches, burgers, chicken fingers, fries, and oven-fired pizzas, as well as snacks and beverages. Indoor seating is for cafe patrons only. Visit Dining for more information.

Can you guarantee an attraction or exhibit will be open?

Like any outdoor park, attractions and exhibits are subject to weather, capacity, mechanical, and/or animal availability.

What is included in the price of an education program?

Education programs include general admission to the Aquarium for program participants within the given maximum. Additional adults will be charged a discounted rate if included in your order or reservation and paid for in advance. If you pay on the date of visit, additional adults will be charged the general admission price and will have to wait on line to pay for their tickets.

Admission to the 4D theater is not included.

How many students can participate in an onsite program or virtual field trip?

Onsite Programs:

  • Pre-K and K: 30 students and 7 adults, including teachers.
  • 1st Grade and up: 35 students and 7 adults, including teachers.
  • Classes cannot be combined to reach the maximum.
  • School & camp groups must provide a minimum of 1 adult chaperone for every 10 children.
  • Chaperones must remain with their group at all times.

    Virtual Field Trips:

  • Pre-K and K: 30 students.
  • 1st Grade and up: 35 students.

  • For virtual field trips, what web platform do you use?

Our conservation educators will adapt the program to your preferred platform. Currently, we are proficient in Zoom, Google Hangout or Meet, and Microsoft Teams.

For virtual field trips, what happens if we are disconnected during our program?

If your instructor loses connection with your class during the program, or other technical issues arise, they will attempt to resolve the issues for 3 minutes. If the issues cannot be resolved and more than 30 minutes of your program time slot remains, our Registrar team will contact you to reschedule your program for a later date and time.

How should I prepare my students for a virtual field trip?

Upon booking your program, the instructor will provide you with a list of recommended student materials as well as other important program information. These materials would be common household items or writing utensils and paper. We also recommend getting your students comfortable with the digital platform (using the chat feature, muting and unmuting themselves, etc.) you plan to use prior to your program date.
