Our volunteer specialties offer something for everyone:

Expedition Leader

Expedition leaders lead inquiry-based tours around the aquarium for school groups and families. These outgoing volunteers who are passionate in sharing information about wildlife and our work protecting wild places around the world. (2, half day shifts a month minimum)

WCS Now Interpreters (1 & 2)

WCS Interpreters are the face of the Wildlife Conservation Society. These volunteers engage the public in informational dialogue and activities at our various exhibits around the aquarium. During the summer they facilitate and assist at some of our touch pools and mentor our youth volunteers. Level 2 interpreters will take additional training allowing them to narrate tank talks around our newest exhibit. (3, half day shifts a month minimum)


Welcome visitors around the Aquarium. Ambassadors play a key role in providing background information about the organization and directing people around the aquarium to shows, talks, and special opportunities. Ambassadors help gather people for talks and ease long lines. If you’re eager to greet and meet new people this role is for you. (3, half day shifts a month minimum)

Education Assistant

Do you like connecting young people with nature and teaching them about the world around us? Education assistants help with a variety of fun interactive programming including summer camp, education classes, events sleepovers, birthday parties, and more. (2, half day shifts a month minimum)

Special Events Support

The New York Aquarium hosts fun and engaging events year-round! Event Volunteers support staff with games, crafts, interactive booths and a myriad of other essential duties especially designed for each event. (2 shifts per year, no training necessary, show up 1 hour prior to shift)
