Adult volunteers are trained to provide interpretation and guest engagement in the following locations within the aquarium: Conservation Hall, Ocean Wonders: Sharks!, Sea Cliffs, Sea Change, Spineless, and the PlayQuarium. Volunteers help guests learn about a particular exhibit and conservation work that is connected to what they are seeing at the Aquarium. Interpreters utilize kits/carts in various locations within an exhibit where they share activities and challenge our guests to observe the animals more closely and discover something new on their visit. Volunteers may also assist at the touch pool by engaging with guests waiting in line, providing rules of the touch pool, sharing information and answering questions about the animals in our touch pool, with the ability to work up to assisting with facilitation at the touch pool itself.
Volunteers will also will help guests find their way around and know times of shows, feedings, and other events happening at the aquarium.
Volunteers must be able to carry small items/pull a cart with them during their shift. In most spaces volunteers may walk around the entire exhibit or station themselves to sit for comfort/accessibility. This role is ideal for a person who enjoys talking with guests of all ages and sharing information.
1 day of in-person training + additional asynchronous trainings (followed by a quiz), 12 hour commitment per month minimum over a 6 month period minimum
