Youth Conservation Summit
Empowering the next generation of ocean conservationists!
Around the world, our planet's oceans and their inhabitants face many challenges. As human impacts continuously threaten the health of our marine ecosystems, both locally and globally, it is imperative that we involve youth in a campaign to help solve these problems.
Become part of the movement and register to participate in the Youth Conservation Summit (YCS) NYC.
YCS NYC is an annual event that takes place every April. This free opportunity is a chance for local high school students to learn about conservation issues affecting them at a local level, and become more knowledgeable about resources available to them to combat these problems. At the summit, students will talk to experts at the Wildlife Conservation Society, take action in aiding local campaigns, and participate in a large beach cleanup.
Students will also hear from their peers who are involved in youth-run marine conservation projects. Workshops offered at the summit will teach participants the skills necessary to build their own conservation projects and be ready to take action in their own communities.
Registration Requirements: All YCS NYC attendees must ...
- Be currently enrolled in grades 9–12
- Have an interest in conservation, environmental science/studies, or general science
- Want to learn about careers in wildlife science
- Envision a healthier planet through the use of science and technology
- Be able to attend the Youth Summit independent of a parent/guardian; please be aware that while your parent or guardian may bring you to and from the event, we will not have capacity for them to participate in the summit
History of the Youth Ocean Conservation Summit
The Youth Conservation Summit is modeled off the widely successful Youth Ocean Conservation Summit, created by Sean Russell in 2011 to provide youth participants with the opportunity to learn from marine scientists and conservationists about the current threats facing marine ecosystems, both locally and globally. Workshops offered at the summit allow participants to gain the skills necessary to successfully implement conservation projects, teach participants about career opportunities in marine conservation, and expose them to opportunities they can take part in to help protect our planet's oceans and their inhabitants. Satellite summits (like the YCS NYC) happen each year in cities across the country.
