Our big baby is growing bigger by the day—and not just in size! His budding stardom began with a national naming contest on NBC’s The Today Show. Thousands of voters chose “Akituusaq,” and now his inner circle of fans call him ’Tuusaq. A YouTube hit, the walrus baby has been making his way around the blog circuit. He also received his first piece of personally addressed fanmail. Thanks, everybody. If we spoke walrus, we’re sure Tuusaq would be saying, “I love you, too!”

How many toys do you have?
Too many to count! There’s the “rockin’ puppy,” the orange surfboard, a white rubber buoy, and of course, the blue ball…
What do you eat?
Tuusaq is still mainly nursing, but now he eats some solid food, too. He gets about a pound of sushi-size pieces of capelin and squid a day.
How old are you now and how much do you weigh?
Tuusaq will celebrate his first birthday on June 12. Join us on June 14–15, when we’ll hold our Big Baby Birthday Bash! The party will feature a guess-the-weight contest, so we can’t give it away yet.
Do you like Legos?
For a giant walrus baby, Legos are too tiny to play with. Just like toddlers you may know, walruses will swallow anything! They’re also very strong. So we have to be very careful selecting toys that are safe and durable. | | |
